He is safely inside in his tank. He's still so tiny that the big pond probably would have been his undoing.

... plus if he were outside I couldn't fawn over him as much as I do now with him at the end of the hallway. :D

After you scrubbed them and they look pretty clean, take a good look at the pock marks and such. Is there healthy black underneath or a different color? My vet gave me bedadine to use on Sheldon's shell to help when I scraped off the fungus he was trying to get rid of. The bedadine will clean any wounds and help them to heal. I'd see if you could get in to see the vet. They'll be able to give you the bedadine (if that's what they need) and tell you how to apply it and everything.

They look like they cleaned up well. Usually the only way to combat hard water is with a softener but I'm not sure what that would do to a turtle.

I realized I measured them all wrong. I did it with a measuring tape from back to front taking the curve into the measurement.
... Well, shoot. Take an inch off all the turtles' measurements, then. I'll be getting a scale soon so when I weigh everyone, I'll do the right measurements, with ... calipers? I'll probably have to make my own.

I just take a regular measuring tape next to my guy to measure his shell. If you have time this weekend I can help you redo the measurements :)

I think I'll take you up on that offer. I knew there were two ways of doing it but failed to pick the right one in my rush to get the measuring device.

And you're right! It looks like Chewy is, quite possibly, a Western Pond Turtle. NEAT.

Betty ate out of my hand today. Aww.

Baby Timmy in his castle:

Note: that clippy thing ^^^ right there was weighing down the sword plant I had in there that he destroyed in less than two days.

Anyway, back to the construction project.
Light sockets mounted, including a bonus shot of my flip flop tan:

Rope tied into ridiculous slipknots with square knots and strength-tested, ready to be hung above the ponds:

However, I CAN'T FIND THE STUPID STUDS IN THE STUPID CEILING FOR MY STUPID EYEBOLTS TO SCREW INTO. AAARGH.

AAARRGH.

Sigh. I even have a studfinder but it's been declared defective.

It's parts from the Imaginext T-Rex Castle Mountain Something-or-Other. We got it from a friend and I was able to put it together ONCE. Then it sat in a box in the garage. Now it's a great area for the fish to hide from the turtle and the turtle to chase the fish.

I think that's where the female Dalmatian Molly is hiding to have her babies because I've seen one baby today and haven't seen her in a while.

Usually studs will follow a specific spacing. its something like 18 inches or something like that. Start from the edge of the wall and lightly tap with a hammer or your fist to listen for a hollow sound and a solid sound.

Construction terminology 101 with professor VC:

Studs are vertical support braces in a wall.
Horizontal braces in a ceiling are referred to as joists.

That's all for now in this class. Your homework: Bring me a Shrubbery!

Chewy could be a melanistic, which is why he looks different. Thanks for the updates, I think a couple of the RES need closer monitoring of their progress.
