you're welcome :) fx5 and fx6 are really expensive now and would do a really good job, they used to be cheaper which was really justifiable but now if you're spending that kind of money go with eheim 2080 or 2180! Also look up DIY canister filter. You can save a lot of money if you're willing to put in some time instead. Here is a really cool video that explains pretty much everything about making your own canister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVWqq73mW_4

Also since your tank is 240 gallons you could probably set up a pond filter as well. check out this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32548 Some folks have really cool home made pond filters! good luck! we'd love to see how your tank turns out :)

I got the fx6 for 338$ delivered by pet mountain also free express shipping. I know that it is a bit pricey, but energy wise, 2 fx6's make way more sense than 4 aqua tops. 83 watts vs 220 watts. No way that I would tackle making my own filter. I would stay up at night worring that I did it wrong, or that it would not be enough for my turtle friends. That's just me though.

haha okay, fx6 is a great choice! just not enough filter for the money spent but that's just me! try an eheim 2080 or 2180 as your second filter instead of a second fx6. ehemi 2080 is a beast!

I got my jager heater and eheim 2075 from bigalspets.com , it is a very well known web store excellent customer service!

here is a 2080: http://www.bigalspets.com/pro-3-2080-ca ... ilter.html for $359.99
use this coupon code to get 10% off 3REEF10 so it would be 323.99! There you go even cheaper than the FX6 :) + Free shipping!

Always do a lot of digging online before you buy anything, google is your best friend :) also check amazon and ebay but only buy from stores that have been in business for a while atleast. Best to buy off their own website if you can locate it via ebay or amazon, that way they usually charge you even less since there is no third party fees associated :)

Good luck

P.S. It's best to order via the phone that way you know for sure that the coupon code is valid and has been applied to your order.

The 2080 would not be big enough, I would need 3 at least to get to 3x tank size. 300 gallons each, my tank is 240 gallons so 3x would be 720. 2 2080's only get me to 600. Plus I will have 4 turtles in the tank with a 120 gallon basking area on top. I think I did fine with the fx6 which is rated at 400 gallons, flow rate is 25 percent higher than the 2080.

The 2180 has the same problem Steve, I would have to add a third as it is a 2080 with a built in heater. That just jacks the price up to 450$

Yes, I have no idea if I need on or not, which were good etc. I have done some research online but it just left more confused about it. I noticed that my fx6 does not include them like the sun sun did.

Yeah I guess you could see if you get algae or not, I don't use one but Ive heard it also helps heating the tank. Perhaps you should do more research on it if you want to explore your options. If I had a tank that big I would definitely look into it. I know that on another thread in this forum someone was recommended using a UV Sterilizer for their outdoor pond to keep the temp controlled.

The eheim's I am getting should be able to handle the heating no problem. I was very interested in alga control. I am planning on 3 or 4 300 watt eheim yager heaters. Dr fostersmith has them for 32$ each. Does anyone recommend a specific uv sterilizer? Brand power etc.
