Habitat - Indoor :: New habitat is coming together!!!

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

That is a sweet setup! Kudos to you.

I know that this won't be my first enclosure for my turtles and am constantly thinking how I am going to accomodate them as they grow. I was thinking an outside pond but I think this method is a bit more friendly on the pocket and I like the idea of having them inside as well.

Great job!
2 RES hatchlings, affectionately named "Thunder" and "Lightning". Purchased in Chinatown for $6, their habitat over $500, the satisfaction that I felt when it was all set up and my turts enjoying their new home = priceless!

TheBean, How did you cut the hole out for the tank? I have the exact same stock tank and would like to build a cabinet like yours

Wow! I didn't check the forums for a while, and here I am back at it and I read this! This is AMAZING! Very nice habitat you built TheBean!

I wish I had the tools to do all that. I am also very interested in building things like this but I Just don't have the skill, or tools =(

TheBean, Would you mind sharing your design plans with me?

Looks good, I just have one question...

The corner molding, I know you use a miter saw but what angles did you use to get the three pieces to meet like that. I have a compunt miter saw myself and planned on doing my molding differently but liek the way you did yours so ya, I'm curious about the exact angles you used.

Hey Beans Dad,
I know i'm a bit behind the curve here as I just saw your post today, but I would love to get the plans for your setup if you still are willing to send them. My email, if it's not showing up on my post, is gustheduck@gmail.com. Thank you so much in advance. The setup looks spectacular, I only hope I can do the plans justice!

Since the author doesnt seem to be around, does anyone know how to achieve a 3 way miter cut like he used for his moulding ?

Crap! I totally forgot about this thread!!! Sorry everyone.

Bean's livin the life. He still gets startled but after he freaks out, he comes right back up to the top to check out who ever's lookin at him. It's cute. I've noticed that he's less skittish and more friendly when we let him out of the tank to roam around the house for a couple hours.

I flipped the tub upside-down on the piece of wood, traced around the "lip," then removed the tub and free handed a line about an inch inside the trace that I drew.

Sure. You'll need a program called Sketchup. It's from Google so seach for it there. It's free. I can email the plans to you once you have that program. Just PM me your email address.

It was just a 45* miter to the center of the bend of the molding. In other words, at 45* angles, turn the molding into an "arrow head." All 3 pieces will fit together fine then. :)

I'll get them sent to you in a couple of days. Just do a google search for "sketchup" and download it. You'll need that to view/manipulate the plans.
