Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Heres my simple fix, Bricks hold the wood at the one end and the floating dock holds up the other allows turtle to get on it. Works very well and is stable.

I had to really lower the water cause that big res can climb out any higher. So with bigger turtles you will have to build a cage at the top. I didnt cause there being moved outside probably this month or next as soon as water gets warm enough.

Great and simple setup.. nice turtles you have there.

Is the water pour on basking wood or beside it?

Here is our above-tank basking area which also doubles as a land bridge between the two tanks. I built this about a year ago after being inspired by others above-tank basking area posts here, thanks!!

Each of those tiles are 18 x 18 inches, and each tank is 40 gallons.

Unfortunately, the little turtle Mieko bullies the bigger one Maximus, which is why we have to separate them now. They still hang out together as much as they can as you can see!

I designed this in Google Sketchup, I also designed and built the stands that each tank rests on. I took loads of pictures during the construction, and I'd be happy to post more details if anyone wants to build something like this.

What a great idea!

I might think about doing this if I need to separate Hurricane and Typhoon when they get older. (Boy and girl scenario) They are very close, but I haven't decided fully if I want babies or not, plus, they are close enough where I would feel awful if I had to separate them completely. This would allow them to interact without hurting each other or sprouting too many kids.

hi guy's this is schmo again- i'm still alive - my owner's been feeding me once every week or so - those green pellets, dried shrimp, and fresh veggies. He changes my water about once a week. I feel pretty good but wish i had a bigger tank to swim around in. i'm looking forward to more warm weather so i can go outside for a stroll.

Just follow my link......

http://s731.photobucket.com/albums/ww317/rockintrixi/

It is 24 inches wide x 48 inches long. I made it that way so I didn't have to 'cut' anything (all my wood was bought "as is" - using 2ftx 4ft or 2ft x 2ft).

The plexiglass I used in the front came in the correct size, as well. I like the fact that it has two plexiglass foldout panels (with latches and door hinges) where I can access things very easily.

I can't lie....it took awhile to 'figure it out', but I just love how easily it came together.

take care all!!!

I believe I made a thread about this basking area on here a few years ago but it might take me a while to find it :P Maybe Steve can help me with that! :P

That tank (a 180L Juwel Rio) holds my 2.5 inch eastern painted turtle, Stelo. He has the whole thing to himself, which is pretty sweet. He will grow into it!

The turtle in my avatar is a Testudo Hermanni Hermanni

** Edit **

Found the threads. :)

This is the basking area in the construction:

Realized the turtles HATED the clear platform. Removed the plexiglass and replaced it with a better "rock-like" material:

I'm planning to build a ATBA and am wondering what type of wood would be safe to use as the actual structure for the sides and top.
