His New Basket Area, he is inching his way there slowly.. He just cant bring himself to get out of the water... Also was able to create more weight balance and increased water to about 35 + gallons of swimming area.. Have to be careful having a POND in my living room

Well finally caught the little booger basking.. This little guy is doing so good and he loves to be talked to...He comes to edge of water and just floats and stares at you when you talk or if he is swimming and I start
talking and say come see grandma he comes swimming over and raises above the water and stares .. I am finding I grab my coffee and just sit quietly and stare at him he is so funny to watch.. He is eating really really
well and he is shedding the bad shell off..got him to eat alittle cuddle bone
this guy have just made so many changes in such a short time..
I am really enjoying this..I already decided if this guy doesnt make it (due to prior conditions) I will get another one this is so enjoyable

why cant you??? the only problem is filling it slow making sure all sides
are stable I have been trying to add a gallon of water each day. once i get to certain point the pond will get top heavy then I really have to be careful.. it is way cheaper then a aquarium.. i paid 60 bucks for a big preformed pond

I've seen those preformed pond things and was actually thinking of picking one up. But they're really just pond liners aren't they? I imagine they'll still holdup well without being placed in the ground (or encased with bricks like I was planning). I'm still amenable to the idea though. I'd really enjoy some more pics of the pond and how you set it up if you're ever in the mind to post in the gallery.

the preformed pond are very heavey duty plastic..
if you dont put in ground you just have to watch the balance when filling
as they are Odd shaped I put books under the sides where there are ledges to support the weight.. i have just been filling it slowly about a gallon of water a day to make sure it doesnt shift

Image

This is kinda what I got alittle different shape 60 bucks, cant beat that price.. they had them as big as 125 gallon for just 79 bucks but i want going to put 125 gallons of water in my living room..considering where my turlte came from and what he was kept in this is a 4 star hotel for him

He is slowly starting to shed his acky shell, but he looks so much better.
He is eating great and he just loves his Basking... I sneak in so I can watch him sunning he is so funny.. we are enjoying this so much..
My new filter system arrived and got it going.. but like I said need to get other parts hooked up so when he swims under it he isnt in a toilet bowl
of water.. I bought a big filter.. he will be plenty clean.. I think this guy is going to be around a LONG time now

Hello Mama_Mouse! I am new on here and have been reading on here for a while today. I came across your posts, and replies, and I have to say you are a wonderful person for taking on this responsibility. As you have found already, it's a lot of work, trial and error, and can be costly. But I see that you are reaping in the rewards already! Enjoy your new little friend and keep us posted with updates and pictures. The little guy's story and your kindness touched my heart, as I too, along with many other RES owners, have gone through similar situations in rescuing and caring for these beautiful creatures. I wish you much luck and success! :D

Hi,
Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.. We are really enjoying this little guy.. and luckly for him it has been a good transition.. the cost hasnt been to bad and stepped into a pretty good deal on pump system..
I did order a all in one bulb and stand so i dont have to have 2 lights...
luckly for me i use to have aquariums so i had stuff.. There is a indoor reef shop by me and stopped in and asked about filters.. i bought a cascade 1500 canister pump system used once for $70 bucks...$ 60 bucks for the pond, $ 24 for a heater and just ordered new bulb and stand
$60 bucks.. so all in all i thought i was getting off cheap.. i am going to keep my eye out for a used 100 plus aquarium for Raff.. just so I can get the pond out of my living room.. But that will come in time.. but we like this little guy he is the center of attention in the house now.. :D

I wanted to post update of Raff, When I adopted him just august 9th
he was happy but noth shell healthy..I got him in much larger home, proper lighting, heat and pump system
This is what the poor little guy looked like august 9th
Image

Now 30 days later he has shed his whole shell and is doing better I am sure then he has every done in his life
Image

His shell is shiny because I have Vita Shell rubbed in his shell to help condition his shell , but there is no soft spots and he looks good to me
