Hey Steve, I took your advice and changed my substrate to pool filter sand. I love it! I will post pictures soon.

That is a fantastic 125 setup. Pool filter sand looks great, I'm going to have to give it a try, thanks for the idea!!
I know I just finished with my 40 gallon but I cannot wait to upgrade to a 70+ and try out some more of the stuff yall are posting lol.
That's so cool that woman set you up with those plants. I kinda want to try making my own now.

Thanks everyone! Yeah she was really cool, of course as usual the turtles prove that you can not think like a turtle, lol.

They have not chewed on them but they have dug them out and scattered them all over the tank. I get to redo them everyday :)

You can silicon a gravel or rocks on to the bottom of each of the plants to create weighted bases. That way even if he uproots them, they will stay on the bottom and vertical. Let him rearrange them however he wants then. :)

The camera on my blackberry is terrible, so I finally got a decent picture of the whole setup with the fake plants in place and pretty much complete.

Nice setup! How are you illuminating the area underneath the basking spot?

The back of the basking area is 3" forward of the back of the tank and I have 2 off the shelf fixtures from walmart hung back there to light the tank. You can see it in this little video my son made http://youtu.be/MVH2UUEDmAE
