Ah I see now! Great idea and saves a ton of space.

The turtle loves it, and it looks really slick. Thanks to everyone here who has done this and documented it already. I spent a week or two reading as many threads as possible and was then able to come up with a plan without a lot of trial and error because I already knew what worked. The ramp and using epoxy putty to attach it to the tile is a great example of that. It would have taken me forever to figure it out. One change I did make is that the tile sits on a rail up in the ATBA rather than directly on the tank. I wanted a larger basking area so there would be room for some decoration up there. The rail allowed for a 24" wide basking area while still attaching to the bottom of the tile. The tank lighting was my biggest concern and hiding it all on the back has worked out great. It also allowed me to use cheap $8 lights instead of expensive aquarium lighting. This was an expensive project, so every $ counts. For a turtle that spent the first 4 years of his life in a 10 gallon tank, this is paradise.

Hey, Im fairly new, and well, a couple of pages back, I read that some people were saying how 7 inches for a RES is big.... :s my turtle Yoda (thought it was a male... till two days ago... He laid an egg :O! xP) is about... 4 years now (got him/her/it back in november of '08) and she's about... 12-ish inches (give or take) and yeah, I just wanted to know how old and how big your guys' turtles are :)

Oh, and we're in the process of making an ATBA, along with a sand nesting area... But we cant seem to find any sand, nor pexiglass... Or these egg crates you guys are using... Though, I do live in Canada... :P We've already checked a couple walmarts, a couple home depots, and we're going either tomorrow or saturday to big als aquarium services to look for sand. Ill be posting some pics of the finished product when its done :3

If there is any pool stores in your area, you can get the sand there for about $12 per 50 pound bag. Ask them for Pool filter sand

I have found in my own experience, that several places have no idea what you are talking about when you ask for egg crate, you need to ask them about light diffuser.

Home Depot has some on their website, perhaps you can print the picture and item number and they can order you some

We have two 4 year old turtles. I also think mine are male, about 4-5 inches each

I bought all my sand from the local salt water place. I'm sure I paid a premium however I love how white the sand was in the 55G. Also make sure you do not get live sand, that is for salt water aquariums.

I have Home Depot play sand. The bag was marked "NOT FOR AQUARIUM USE" but it seems to be holding up fine, it is very light and fine.

FYI guys, I used pool filter sand. It was really easy to clean and the best part was the 50lbs bag cost me $9. It was enough to cover my 75 gallon tank.
