Habitat - Indoor :: POST YOUR BASKING AREA PICTURES HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Sat Aug 31, 2013 12:21 pm   Re: POST YOUR BASKING AREA PICTURES HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would anybody happen to know where some pictures of an ATBA on a RubberMaid stock tank would be located, on this thread? 56 pages' worth of posts takes up a lot of time/browsing, especially when you're looking for just one specific kind of setup! (Which isn't a bad thing--I love seeing all the aquarium ATBA ideas, too).

The platform is composed of one large and one medium Zoo Med floating docks attached to the top of a 3/4" laminated wood cutting board to hold them together and lift them higher out of the water. They are both secured via the large dock's suction attachment to the rear glass of the tank. Total dry area is 12" x 14". The lights are: one Reptile UVB 100, one 65w halogen spot, and two 35w halogen spots.

The turtles love the platform and spend hours each day basking. I had previously built a more elaborate "above the tank platform" for them, but they didn't like it and refused to use it! So, I reverted back to the Zoo Med platforms which they seem to like very well. I made the acrylic perimeter quite high around the basking platform because I have a "climber" who's always looking for a way up and over! That's Alexander. Curiously, Augustina who is bigger than Alexander never tries to climb out; she seems quite content to stay in the tank.

Oh and I used my webcam today so while I was at work I could catch him catching some rays! At least I know he can make it up! (Sorry not great quality)

I really love this picture! Caught on camera! When my turtles were younger they wouldn't bask when anyone was in the room. When you opened the front door, there'd be a thumping sound and then a splash. Now they don't mind company at all.

That's cool! How'd you get it to attach to the tank?

This is made out of pvc pipe, some gutter guards (keeps leaves out of the gutters) found at Lowe's. Bought some artificial plants and wired them around the pvc pipes. The top has a piece of that white square stuff that you can easily break with a file to any size you's like. the basking area itself I covered with some indoor/outdoor carpet and that's it! Total cost was roughly $40.

Guard? What do you mean? The black stuff at the top? If so, thats just a black color gutter guard. Very cheap and sold in 2 foot pieces at Lowes. It even has a lip on it that rests on top of the tank.
