Creative but I do think they might eat it as well. Are you using toothpicks to extend the ramp? I'd think cork bark would be perfect in this situation.

Steve - Yes I suspect them eating it, because every day I find some styrofoam floating around and little U's out of the start of the ramp haha! And yes, those are toothpicks lol. Cork bark in fact would be perfect, but I don't know where to get it.

Florists, garden centers, craft stores, reptile shops, aquarium and a reptile expo would be some places to check out.

Tinky's new above tank basking area. Built it with wood I had left over from building the stand for the tank. Sits on top of one half of his 75 gallon tank.

A peek inside. Got the idea to put in windows from another ATBA that I saw on the forum.
Image

The river rocks I got from the dollar store. Used like 6 bags of rocks. The rocks are held in place with clear silicone.
Image

The 6x6 ceramic tile isn't "glued" down, it's just there cause I thought he'd want need a smooth place to bask.
Image

The background I got off of ebay. It's just a regular aquarium background that I put around the sides of the basking area attached with a hot glue gun.
Image

I physically put Tinky up there this first time. He looked confused. lol
Image

I had to change the traction on the ramp. The first stuff I used (anti-skid tub strips) didn't work. Tinky tried climbing up and because the acrylic ramp is thin, it bends with his weight on it, so the angle got to steep and the anti-skid strips didn't give him enough grip, so he got half way up and slid right back down. So, I put a piece of lining used for kitchen draws on the ramp, then cut bamboo skewers to make a "ladder" steps for him. He has no trouble climbing up now.

Just another picture with the new ramp.

Looks pretty cool. I like his quick escape in the video :) If the bamboo doesn't hold up, you can cut acrylic strips in its place.

So I did a DIY topper. Its on a 10g but its just temporary until my local Pet Supplies Plus has their $1/gal sale in a couple weeks. So this is my practice one until my babies get their 55 gal. I cant wait bc it will be sooo much better! I already have things I will do differently.

So there are the basics. I know there are things I need to change, I'm just trying to give them the best while waiting for their bigger tank.
Made some changes. I didn't like the lack of light under the basking area so I switched out 1/3 for river rocks. Mikey's foot got caught in the protruding egg crate so I removed it.

GREAT NEWS!!
My friend is giving me a 55g tomorrow! so a new basking design coming soon!
So here is the new basking area for the 55g. It took me a few weeks to tweak it.

@tortsnturtles:
The tutorial that steve posted said to make them 80x80 so thats what I did. If you click through my photobucket you can see bigger pics of the ones i posted and other sides of the tank. :msgreen:
If any one knows a bigger size that wont distrupt the forum that would be good to know!

An avatar can be up to 100x100. For posting on the forum, there is no limit if the image is embedded from another site, but around 1000x800 is a nice size. Most photo sharing sites will provide a link that creates a thumbnail and link to larger image for you. Use the one that says BBC code.
