The only thing I use is the cheapest gravel vacuum I could find at the local pets store. $5.00. If you are wiling to spend a little more I would get the largest one you can find. my little one takes a while to drain and the suction is less than desirable.

I have a battery operated one.. it works good.. just that my thumb/finger gets tired of holding down the darn button.. too bad they don't have one that just has a switch. Its good for in between major cleanings but that's about it. Just the daily mess stuff.

It does an ok job.. like I said, I use it for getting crude off the bottom between cleanings. the biggest problem is having it at the right water depth. You can't go above a certain point .. so sometimes its a pain :)

Yeah and if you go above that point you have to wait til the bloody thing dries out.

Thanks everyone, wasn't sure about the vaccuum - but think I will give it a go, if I can find a big enough one :P

I had to test my turtle with rocks. I started with fish gravel and I read about a lot of turtles eating them so I took them out. I then had nothing, but he didn't seem to like it. So I tried river rocks and he hated that more, so I went and bought medium sized fish gravel and he likes that the best. Each turtle is different, I realized that over the last few days. But I knew my turtle was different when I bought him, because he tried to talk. :D

I have a Super Battery Vac. It does a slow job of cleaning and doesn't do well with soft matter (like poop). I rarely use it and when I do it's more for the enjoyment of my RES (he likes to chase it around and flutter at the red ring on the extension tube).
