i have a 9month and a 3month old turtle, and they're in a 10 gallon tank. they have plenty of room to swim around, but when i read other people's posts, their tanks are much larger. i see them doing the mating dance once in a while, but are they trying to claim their territory?

They could very well be fighting for space. the general rule of thumb is 10 gallond per inch of turtle. Example- if both of your turts are 2 inches, you need a minimum 40 gal tank. But bigger is always better, and that way, you won't have to upgrade as often.

I agree--get the biggest tank/container as you can. Since they're not sexually mature, it sounds like a possible territorial issue.
