Habitat - Indoor :: Frogs in my tank

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Tue Apr 26, 2005 2:52 am   Frogs in my tank

I just built a new tank at work , its 4 ft long , 12 in high and 12 in wide. I put lots of rock through a little less then half of it so they can be out of the water if they wish. I have a filter in it that handles between 2 and 15 gallons. I also plan on putting plants in it. My question is can i put a frog or 2 in it and if i can what kind and how big???
thanks for any help!!

some frogs are toxic if eaten also. I wouldn't recommend ever putting them in with your turts.

fish maybe if they're fast enough. Anything you put in with your turtles are potential food items.

i put about 2 dozen rosey reds in on saturday and i am down to about 12. There are lots of places for them to hide in the rocks in my tank , so i'm hoping some of them will hang in there for awhile. They seemed to have figured out that the turtles are the enemy and now they tease them by just comming far enough out of the rocks so that the turts can see them but can't get to them.

barbs are really fast and the turtle can't touch them. i would recommend small cichlids though(africans, rams, etc.) they are smart enough that they just don't get eaten by the turtle. mine is mean as hell and actually pics on my turtle though. not good.
i have one rosy red that survived after all of his buddies/family got eaten. he is so hardcore. he thinks he is a barb. he runs with my three huge tin foil barbs and has taken up all their habits. every one of them. he acts EXACTLY as they do. he is very aggressive though. which is pretty cool. he will actually eat feeders himself. he gets down on baby guppies. we named him nemo because he was supposed to get eaten and never did.
which just goes to show you that those rosy reds are hardcore. get some of them. they are cheap and it wont matter if they get eaten. eventually they will grow enough that the turtle wont try to eat them.

damn, rattled on. oh well. good luck.

I put three Rose Reds into my turts tank this evening. I then witnessed one of them got eaten soon, though there was a pretty big and good place for them to hide. Rose reds swim fast, but my RES were so smart and worked together--they used different strategies to hunt that Rose Red. At that moment, my TURTS were so cool and scared me because they just looked like intelligent robots. Finally, the poor Rose Red was forced to one of the corners of the tank and got eaten...some pieces of his body was flowing out of the mouth of my RES The rest two were really scared and trying so hard to jump out of the tank...They all looked like intelligent beings...They are not what they look like...I now am so scared when my turts look at me, coz I don't know what they have in their minds... :x
I now have 18 fishes, 2 RES. I plan to have more pets after my graduation... 2 cats, 3 hamsters, 8 birds, tons of pet insects...:)
