guppies and minnows are the best choice
Never place in goldfish. Unhealthy for your turtle

Are you talking about for food or for keeping? Because more than likely anything you put in the tank will be eaten. But as TurtleSirens said, feeder fish, guppies or rosey minnows are the best choice.. goldfish have little nutritional value.

yeah, turts don't co-habitate well with any fish... I wouldn't introduce anything you've become attached to with your turt. You also have to be wary of the toxicity of other aquatic animals you put with your res. Some frogs/toads are poisonous, and some fish are also very unhealthy for turts to eat(goldfish)

what kind of bottom feeders? do you mean plecos (algae eaters)? Some put larger plecos in with their res, however, I've heard stories of the pleco attaching itself to the res's face and eating its eyelids. Most people don't have a problem though, as long as the pleco is big enough for the res to not try and eat it.

I have had good luck with a pleco in the tank (so far). However, Pete has eaten every other fish I put in there (wish I would have known that info before my beta got the raw end of the deal).

I've got 3 rosey reds in the tank with my RES right now, I started off with 10, he ate 7 of them in a 2 week period and now the 3 left he won't eat. They've been in there for about a month and a half now.

One of them is pretty bold, its the largest of the 3 and will actually eat pellets from my turtles mouth as hes eating them.

I got 12 feeder guppies when i got my turts about 3 months ago. All 12 are still happily swimming around the tank. They tried to catch them in the early going but i think they just gave up due to lack of success. I was feeding them too much as well. Anyway, my fish dont see the turtles as a threat either so they'll swim up right next to the turtles at feeding time to eat the scraps coming out of the turts mouths. Its quite funny to see a turtle surrounded by 10 or so fish. Ill take a pic for ya.

I dropped in some rosey reds yesterday and within a minute 2 of them were caught by my 2 res, it was so much fun waching them chase the other ones around, I don't think they have ever had so much exercise as they did yesterday and this morning. Rosey reds=get your turts to exercise. I also have an 2 algea eaters, 1 has been in the tank for over 2 weeks and the other just went in yesterday. I have noticed that the turts have found some intrest in the tail of the bigger fish but are still a bit afraid, which is good.
