didnt want to hijack trevorw's thread.

so how do you replace your tank water? scoop it out with a bucket? siphon manually? smash the old tank and buy a new one and just start all over every week? or do you let your cat drink it and just refill when it gets low?

I siphon it out the window. Some people use a python and siphon the water into a sink and some use a wet/dry vac. When I had a smaller tank, I would use my canister filter to pump the water into a bucket.

I'll give my praise to the miraculous invention of the python.

Hook it to your sink and it sucks the water out like magic with out the mess. Then when the nasty water is gone. a flick of the wrist and you can fill up your tank.

Truly gods gift to aquarium cleaning.

cheap at Wal-Mart, expensive at petco.

Can I get an AMEN?!?!?

LOL, I put it off for like 4 months cause it was like 25 bucks and I'm cheap. Once I got it I can't imagine how I lived with out it. I almost want to clean the tank it so easy.

After lugging buckets now for almost five months with a bad back, I should have already done this. But like you said, I've just not wanted to spend the money on it. :)

AMEN!!!! I don't know WHAT I'd do without my python! Even tho I paid $80 for it at the pet store, it has more than paid for itself!

You get an AMEN from me too. I don't know how I'd handle all these tanks. 2 fish and the 75 gal for the turtles without it. Makes it a breeze to do the water changes. I got mine at Walmart for $25. :)

Do you have a petsmart near you jeggy? If so they do price matching with their online prices. Just find the item you want, print it out and take it with you when you go to petsmart. My daughter and I have saved A LOT of money by doing this and I know others have as well.. :)

I'm not really advocating buying anything from Wally World, I try to avoid the place like the plague and would support an all out boycott, but they had the best price and could get it that day rather than wait to have it shipped.

good luck

I got my python from Big Al's for 40 bucks. They actually had a video of it in operation --i was sold in 2 minutes. It all depends on the length of the tube and the accessories. I have a 24" tall tank so i need a longer suction tube. The way it sucks water out of the tank isnt exactly magic. Its called a venturi. Its using the water pressure from your tap to create a cyclone of water.

yup. venturi vacuum. the water rushing out of the faucet creates a low pressure in the tube/hose that goes into the tank. that low pressure "sucks" water from the tank into the hose/tube and joins in with the water from the faucet.
