Habitat - Indoor :: Yehaw! New aqaurium!

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Okay so I finally convinced my mom to buy Walnut a new aqaurium. It is 75 gallons, so I won't need to upgrade ANY time soon.

I was wondering what y'all would suggest I use for the filter. I want to get one that is relatively easy to maintain, but does a good job. (Yeah right... lol).

Any suggestions would be helpful. I saw something once or twice about a Filstar XP3, but that sounds expensive.

Thanks,
Johnny

Congrats on the new tank. :) Now you need a filter that will do a good job of cleaning. A canister filter would be best; no decent canister filter is cheap, but in terms of keeping up the water quality and making cleaning easier, they are worth the extra cost. A Filstar XP3 would be really good...

If you go to www.bigalsonline.com, click on filters and then on canisters, you'll see a good selection to choose from. The prices at big als are about the best overall, much better than buying from a place like Petco, etc. Some Petsmarts, if there's one near you, will price match if you print a copy of the filter, price and date and bring it in to show them.

I also recommend the XP3. It works great. You can also find it online at www.drfostersmith.com .

Thanks everyone. Spookster I have to say Big Al's as much cheaper pricing. I think your site was selling it as $114 while Big Al's had it for $99.99.

Right now we are using the Emperor 280 we got with the aqaurium. I'm not to crazy about it, so maybe a Filstar XP3 is in the future. :)

Yeah I got mine at drfostersmith for $99 when it was on sale. Both are good sites for ordering equipment and supplies.

Check to see if the biomedia (ceramic rings or stars) is included. Sometimes the price of the filter will be cheaper, but the biomedia won't be included and you'll have to pay extra for it.
