Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Has anyone ever seen smoke coming from their dock before? I noticed this for the first time today. Freaked me out big time. It wasn't a lot of smoke but little random puffs of smoke every once in a while. It's never happend before b/c I never had the water so high.

I was just wondering how those of you position your lights when you have the water level up high? I know I need to get a lower wattage light bulb tomorrow....

Here's my setup if you didn't see it on the photo page...

Never happened to me, but I wouldn't be surprised considering what the turtle dock is made of. Are you measuring the temperature of the basking platform?

Does it smell like something's burning? What's the temp of the basking area? Is it possible that the smoke is really steam from water evaporating off it (had your turtle not been basking very long and left the surface wet?)? If so, the basking area sounds way too hot and should be adjusted (checking it would be good).

There is no smell. And I did notice today that it started smooking after the turtle jumped off and there was water on the surface. And the end of the dock w/o the ramp usually always has water on it b/c it doesn't float evenly.

I'm going to get a different dock today and something to measure the temp.

i saw the same exact thing today. i upgraded to a 65 gal tank this weekend from a 20 so everything is changed. i guess i had my lamp too close to the dock. i had it directly above the dock. now i repositioned it about 4 inches away and it now points to the dock from an angle. i havnt gotten around to measuring the dock temp yet. i still need to fine tune everything.
