Habitat - Indoor :: would it be practical to combine two tanks???

I was thinking about habitats and all that other stuff and seeing how ppl made their own basking are so that they can fill up the tank all the way up with water, so I was wandering if I buy another tank, a terrarium, and take one whole side of the panels off and just create a ramp to make it look like its coming "ashore" and make the whole terrarium a land habitat to look like it has real trees and use real dirt or whatever just to make it look like a natural habitat i guess. what do you think??

yes that sounds very cool, it could be like a desert on the land part with some nice plants and what not, pics are a must if you do decide to do it!!!

More power to you! If you have a female, in time she will need a nesting area anyway. Just keep in mind that if you decide to cut the glass for any reason, it will weaken it. You didn't mention that, but it was just a thought. (Something stupid I would try to do, lol)

I wasthinking about that too, should it be desert or more like a really damp swamp like area??

Do a search on this site...I know some people use sand, others soil. Depends on preference and what your turt will use. I know there are a lot of threads on this topic and there are pictures in the gallery as well.

Sounds neat. I would go with a desert style, since it'll be warm for basking.

Would this 2nd tank be above or next to the other one? Either way, you wouldn't need to waste the other tank that way, there are plenty of plastic tubs you can use and will they provide a lot more options.

I think using a plastic tub is a great idea. It'll be a lot easier than using an actual tank.
Are you worried about the turtle tracking dirt/sand into his water? I ask because I would be. When I build mine it'll probably be rocks and plastic grass. Which is what my turtle likes, so it works out.

yea but if i do use a plastic tub then you cant really see the whole "land" part of the habitat. and I think the Tank is so it adds some flare to your house cuzz if they see that then it would prolly look pretty neat. and besides i not sure if too much basking area is good cuzz if i add trees and stuff like that to it would they get lost??? and not be able to find the water again?

I guess it would be like an indoor pond only its in a tank haha

I don't think a turtle could get lost in a tank...
How big did you want it to be? As big as the water tank?
You can find clear plastic tubs. One thing you could use is those plastic tanks they sell at pet stores, like the Critter Keeper.

yeah i was thinking about using that but i wanted it to be about at least as big as a 20 gallon tank

If you do build above the tank... make sure it's well supported. Glass is heavy... dirt and sand is heavy. If you want the sides to be viewable, you can look into acrylic or Plexiglas since they are much lighter compared to glass.
