Habitat - Indoor :: Filter doe 40 gallon breeder tank

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have one, enormous, female RES, Frankie. I need a new filter my old Fluval is too small for this tank - a 40 gallon breeder tank. I put my spare Marineland Emporer 400 HOT filter in her tank. But heaven help me I can't stand all water noise! Is there a better filter for a setup like this or any tips to diminish the waterfall sounds. It's loud.

Sounds like you need a larger tank also. As far as filters Fluval makes good filters. On the cheap side Odyssea filters.

And how much water is in there? HOTs need higher water levels to keep them quiet but also for priming.

I hated my HOT filters cause of the sound, so I upgraded to a canister filter. Best $100 I ever spent in my life.

I've always known them as HOTs. I don't venture in other forums, so I'm not sure if the term is more popular elsewhere.

@Peva - You can quiet them down without raising water levels but they might still lose their prime if they lose power.

The tank is about 3/4 full. Can't go any higher or she'll climb out. Is there a canister that stands out?

PS: sorry about the unintelligent title. Seems auto correct's mission in life is to embarrass me!

Fluval Fx6 is a great filter. But like I mentioned earlier you really need a larger tank for a large turtle to be comfortable.

Steve, I believe the term is hob filters. Hang on back. I did a Google search for hot filters and came up with 0 results. Lol

I think you can blame Marineland for the HOT abbreviation. They've made for many years now a Magnum 350 H.O.T. and now a Magnum 250 H.O.T.

I agree the generic term used by most is HOB.
