Habitat - Indoor :: Oops! Dropped a bulb

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

In a tired stupor this morning, I got up and wanted to do some water tests...

The good news: my tank is finally cycled. :) Ammonia and nitrites are at 0ppm, and nitrates are within a healthy range (although the GH levels are oddly high since last time I checked, so that's an issue in itself I've yet to figure out).

The bad news: I usually take down my UVA/heat and UVB lamps so I don't risk them falling... I didn't this time, and so - by the nature of Murphy's law - my UVB one (18", 15 watt Reptisun UVB 10.0) toppled five feet onto the floor. Luckily it's carpeted, and both the lamp and bulb seem to have survived (it still turns on, woo).

My (potentially dumb) question: can a concussive blow to a special bulb like this affect UVB output? It superficially "works", but I want to make sure it is still doing its job (i.e., delivering a healthy amount of UVB radiation to my turtle).

Thanks in advance!

I think the bulbs work by burning off a coating inside the glass, so you should be fine. There's nothing to secure the fixtures for you?

Sorry for the belated reply! Was out of town and then forgot, lol.

Thanks for the response! As you can see here, I just kind of have them resting on top of the basking area: Image

Maybe I can get creative and mount them somehow though...

I'd try to come up with something more stable for the fixtures. What kind of LED are you using in the tank?
