Yo, Alkaiser here

So I went to the store the other day and bought this nice big floating piece of wood cut off of the outside of a tree apparently, rated at extra large and in the reptile section. Kind of like a semicircle log.

I decided to implement it in my tank setup.

However, there was a problem.

When I check on it when I get home from college, the log piece had white kind of hairs coming off the end, and very thick. When taken out of the water the edges just turned to slime so I put it away and I've been wondering what to do since.

Any thoughts?

I'd soak it in hot water first. Like in your bathtub maybe. Then lay it out to dry completely. See what happens. I don't think I would put it in there if it wasn't completely gone though. And I don't know how much things like that 'hide'.

Are you sure the log you bought was meant to be in the water? Some of those semi-circular logs that petstores sell are meant more for lizards, etc. and are not really for keeping in the water.
