Habitat - Indoor :: turtles don't like to come out of water

Hello!

I am a new(ish) owner of 2 red eared sliders. They are about 2 inches wide. We have a large tank from a previous pet, which we filled with a few inches of water for the turtles. They have rocks and logs for basking, but do not like to come out of the water, especially during the day. The are white spots forming on one of the turtles' shell, and I fear it is because they are not spending enough time out of the water.

Is our tank set up okay? Should we look into a heated rock? Any suggestions on getting them to spend more time out of the water?

Pictures will help much better of the setup and turtles . Need more info for a qualified answer ('s). Please answer these questions with some detail like type and size for items please. Size in gallons/liters. How much is a few inches.


How big is your turtle?
How long have you had it?

What is the water temperature?
Did you use a thermometer?
Are you using a water heater?
How much water is in there , gallons/liters?
Are you using a water conditioner?
Are you using any filtration (type and size , gph)?

What is the basking temperature?
Is there a basking light? ( UVA )
Is there a UVB light?
Are both over the basking dock?
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on?
What kind is it or what is it made out of?



What have you been trying to feed it?
When was the last time your turtle ate?

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure?
Is the tank near a window?
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity?

Have you read the Basic Care section and habitat requriments?
Have you searched the forums for similar situations?

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms?


If no to most of these questions you will need to give more time and attention to there setup. Look at top header on this page for most all info you will need with a turtle habitat . Lots of homework to do , read all so to have a better understanding what a turtles requires. We will be here to help you understand why and any questions you may have.
