Habitat - Indoor :: Too cold?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:23 pm   Too cold?

When I turn on the tank lights in the morning my RES are never up on there dock. :? It has been getting colder during the nights I'd say low to mid 70s. Is this too cold for them? Or are they just playing it safe by sleeping in the 78F water? If it is too cold is there anything that warms there dock but still keeps there night and day cycle? I want to get something like this for the winter anyway since there tank is next to the garage which is the only room that is not heated.

Thanks in advance...

Nathan Radle. :D

It's fine for them to sleep in the water, and they'll be able to keep a warm enough temperature sleeping in that water temperature. I wouldn't worry about it. I live in Wisconsin, temperatures drop below 0 and my turtles just sleep in the 75 degree water and don't mind.

My turtle sleeps either in the water or on his dock. He props himself between the filter tubes and uses them to hold him up.....LOL.

They need heat to entice them to bask. If the baking area is not warmer than the water, then they usually won't bask. There's no reason to have them bask at night.
