Habitat - Outdoor :: Help, Ants!

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

I've almost finished my outdoor enclosure for my babies. I noticed today that I've got an ant problem. I know I can't use many things to kill them and I don't want them hurting my babies. Anyone know what will help? Hubby said grits don't work.

Find the source and get rid of the ant hill. This seems like an interesting site, a little dated, but entertaining. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tips/msg0518494323783.html

I've heard a ring of salt will stop them from coming in. I'd find the hill and dump a little ant killer on it if it's not in your enclosure.

I've got a perfect solution! Get some instant grits - the kind people eat for breakfast - and sprinkle them where ever the ants are. Do this when the weather is dry. The ants will eat the dry grits which will expand in their stomachs when they get moist and burst the ants. Repeat this a few times as the grits disappear and in a few weeks - no more ants. Perfectly non-toxic to vertebrates and cheap too!
