Habitat - Outdoor :: Tadpoles.

Im not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but here goes, Has anyone ever raised tadpoles into frogs, im thinkin of puttin some tadpole in my pond and letting them grow into frogs, does anyone know what it takes to do this, do you just throw em in and let them grow, or is there more to it than that?

I've raised frogs and toads from tadpoles. Is your pond a big one? What do you have in it?

i'm currently raising seven tadpoles on my unused 20-gallon tank outside. i've been waiting forever... the biggest tadpole already looks like a tiny frog with a long tail...

I found a very good website on raising tadpoles. www.repticzone.com Check out their care sheets and look through some of the forum discussions and you will learn a lot. I tried to throw some bullfrog tadpoles into my pond but my koi ate them. Now I'm raising them in a separate aquarium until they grow into mature frogs and will put them in my pond.

My pond is around 125 gallons. I just have some goldfish in there right now, but i do put my turtles in occasionally on nice days. I think i may trry to raise some, i just got to find some first. Im going to check a local petstore if not i think im going to check out a pond nearby my house.

Erm...but when the store-bought tadpoles grow up into frogs they'll hop away...You'll have to make sure they naturally live where you live.

Also, getting tadpoles from other ponds, there is a risk of transmitting disease or parasite from that pond to your pond. Not to mention the fish and turtles will find the tadpoles a lovely snack.

Ahhh i see, i think i will catch the tadpoles from a creek across the street from my house, and then ill raise them and see what happens. Thanks for the input

When I first put my pond in 22 years or so ago, I put a load of tadpoles in. There are still loads of frogs in there and they lay eggs every Spring. They are very loud at night, but are beneficial to the pond and they also eat mosquito's.

Yes. I first bought a load from William Tricker catalog, (bull frog tad poles) and just put them in the pond. Every year the frog population grows in there.

Here is one last year that is almost a frog.

If you don't want them to hop away, I'd research and see if African Clawed frogs can live outdoors in your pond. You can raise them as tadpoles and they don't leave the water. So they never need land! I have one inside. They take a long time to grow big though. Some don't get very big for 5-7 years.

I bought two bull frog tadpoles, from a local plant and pond nursery. Im gonna see how they do, if they flee they flee, no biggie, i had a few african dwarf frogs and i had bad experiences with them so i think im all set on what africa has to offer as far as frogs lol... THanks for the suggestion though
