Hi everyone ! I currently live in SW Florida (Naples) where we have warm temperatures year round. In our summer (now) it will get as high as 92-93 in the day time and drop into the low 80's in the evening and in the winters, we maintain low to mid 80's and at night into the 50's sometimes. Every now and again we will get a cold snap and will drop into the 40's for a night or 2 --
I currently am the proud owner of 2 yellow belly sliders, Stella and Jack, although a few months back I learned that Jack was actually Jackie--- Anyway, I have kept them in a kiddie pool out on my lanai since I rescued them when they were babes --size of quarters -- thy have lived outside and thrived for close to 3 years. They have a pool that is 4 feet in diameter and 8 inches high... and a beautiful basking area made of white limestone rocks that is built up in such a manner that affords them and 18x18 inch shade tunnel underneath ---
We have a lake behind our house where there are many RES and snappers, and they thrive year round --- So I assumed that mine would as well. I feed them a diet of high quality turtle foods including dried worms, krill, crickets, Zoo Med aquatic turtle food ect ect with some lettuce, chicken, turkey thrown in there occasionally. We get mega amount of rain in the summer that rotates the water out every 2-3 days and in the winter I swap it out every week or so. Anything else I could be doing for them ? One of them has grown almost 8 inches long while the other is about 3 inches.... The bigger one is definately a food hog and sometimes I will separate them to feed....but all in all, they are healthy and active. The bigger one also spends a good part of the day trying to climb out of the pool ....looking for a place to lay eggs ? I am contemplating some water hibiscus for them as i read they would eat them as well as some boiled egg shells for calcium...

Sounds like you're doing a good job. I'd keep an eye out for prelonged cold weather. You can probably cut back on the protein as well. For the bigger one, have you tried feeling for eggs?

You might want to consider upgrading the size of their habitat (especially the depth), and adding a filter system as opposed to large and frequent water changes. Good luck!
