There are several types of pond heaters. Most common is the pond de-icer. It floats on top of the water, making a small "ring" hole around the heater to allow toxic gases to escape. These can run upwards of $30 and are made to heat the water around the heater to
only about 40 degrees F.
An electric pond heater that will sit in the bottom of the pond and keep the water warmer can cost quite a bit more. This one sells for $378.
There are also gas heaters for ponds. But even more
