About the only thing you have to worry about is raccoons.
Lost 3 turtles once.
If they are babies,I guess a bird could take one?

no racoons here :)
and my turtles are 3 years old and pretty big :wink:
hope they are big enough to scare all other animals and be alone :lol:

my turtles have moved out in the "wild" nature and they seem happier ;)
although their baby pool has a hole and i got to buy a new one :(
i am watching for their reactions and if any animals approach..

Up to about 4 inches a turtle can be prey for birds (like hawks) depending on the size. I would think a determined bird with a good grip could even carry away a somewhat bigger turtle.

i know and thats my main problem so i put the pool close to nearby homes and under trees..
i havent noticed hawks coming so down cause people live there but just in case..
if i notice anything strange i will protect them more or take them back in city...

My mother-in-law told me today that a hawk picked up her neighbor's four pound Yorkshire terrier and flew away with it.... so I'm pretty sure a hawk could get a turtle!!

:shock: When you think about it, their natural prey include rabbits and fowl which can get bigger than a full grown turtle. Man, we've go a lot of Red-Tail Hawks around here too, usually way high up in the sky. But I'd hate to think of what would happen if one got a hold of any of my pets. :( I'm certainly going to be a lot more careful when taking my animals outside.

Hey Greek, how far are your turtles from your house? It sounds like you don't have them with you anymore (they're in the country and you're in the city?).

yea in maine its a bad idea to have small dogs because eagle carry them off all the time

well neighbours informed me that eagles and hawks dont fly so low cause people live there so they preffer fly high at wild mountain..
the turtles enjoy them :)
way better than here in town..
i still have my mind on dangers though..
