Habitat - Outdoor :: Coffee Grounds in the Garden

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

I just got two turtles (a RES and a wood turtle). I was wondering if someone knew if it was okay for me to continue to use coffee grounds as fertilizer in my gardens or if I should discontinue. Many thanks!

Ok, I did a quick search on the web for this because I would not have even thought of that. Good question...

Here's a quote that I got from:

http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/pets/33

Many common household items have been shown to be lethal in certain species, including moth balls, potpourri oils, fabric softener sheets, automatic dish detergents, batteries, coffee grounds and homemade play dough.

I could not find anything specific for RES or turtles, but I would say why take a chance knowing it hurts some pets. :) Hope this helps....
