EDIT: Correct forum..

Hi guys, it's been awhile but we finally moved and got the turtles (still haven't named them yet..) a much bigger tank..went with a TRUVU (acryllic) 30 gallon (remember they were in a 10 gal earlier). Anyway, I've decided to keep them outside (I live in Southern California) and no filter, heating/lighting source. I don't think I need a UV light in this case as they get plenty of sunlight during the day.

The tank is somewhat enclosed all around with an opening on the top which seems to retain the heat pretty well also. I have noticed though that with the placement of the tank I do get algae growth, but usually clean the tank every 2 weeks which clears it up well. (I have a Python 50' tank cleaner which kicks butt! http://www.pythonproducts.com/aquariumpix/50NS.html)

So, my question is..is it ok to continue their habitat without additional heating and filtering? There's a lake by our house which has numerous RES' and they seem to be thriving in the wild..so..

I've uploaded a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eljGYZVY9Vw for your opinion..thanks.

You should take them inside. Mine are fine in there socal pond, by tanks get much colder during the winter because of there small size.

Bad idea... Aquariums can easily overheat during the day, and it can be fatal to your turtles. Having no filter is bad enough, I suggest you keep the aquarium inside or purchase stock tanks etc.. A 30 gallon is alright I would say but please get all the requirements first.
