How many watts should UV/heat lamps be? Thanks!

It depends. A fluorescent UVB light will be around 13 to 25 watts. An incandescent bulb for heat can be from 75 watts to 100 watts. A mercury vapor bulb for both heat and UVB that's appropriate for a normal aquarium will be 100 watts.

For heat lights, don't go by wattage alone---use the wattage that will get the basking area temp in the range of 88-90F.

For UVB bulbs, look at the percentage of UVB that the bulb emits, not the wattage. Conventional UVB bulbs are flourescent and are typically low wattage bulbs.
