I currently have a 50 gallon, I am thinking about investing in a FX5. Is this too much? I currently have a 150 gallon canister capacity which is minimum but would love something a little more powerful. I am trying to upgrade my tank soon so the FX5 will be good then, but for now?

The fx5 will be fine. You can dial down the flow with the valves if it's too strong, but you can't really over-filter your tank.

My turtle loves the strong currents, he is 4 inches, and loves to swim up under the outlet and then swim into the current for a ride across the tank.

The turtle will be fine in the current, but the OP may need to dial back the flow if she's using sand substrate and the flow is strong enough to kick up a constant sand storm.
