Equipment Review and Discussion :: new Rena XP4 problems... not pumping

I have a rena XP4 on a 90gal tank and it is only about a month old. The problem is it will not pump water from the outtake to the spray bar. It will prime fine and the canister fills up but when plugged in water will not reach the top of the tubing on the outtake. I have checked for air leaks and can not find anything that could be causing this. Also when the motor is running trying to pump the water it is very quite compared to what it was. Anyone have any similar problems or know what might be wrong I have tried a good 10 times and can not get it to work its a brand new filter.

Do you have any slack in the filter return line? Is the return line clear? Have you tried opening the canister and inspecting to see if any media shifted ?

I have don't have much slack at all on the return line. I have made sure that the lines are clear and inspected the media multiple times. The water will make it to the very to[ of the return line and just wont go any higher and I find it hard to believe that my motor could have gone bad after a month.

Is the impeller clear? Any signs of plastic or wear on the impeller or shaft?

I'd contact API / Rena and ask for a RMA and replacement. Sounds like you somehow may have gotten a defective unit.

yeah the motor is bad I put the lid of a XP3 on it and it worked fine. Will it make a difference/ Work the same if I use the motor part of the XP3 on my XP4?

I've heard they're the same, but you'll need to verify it with the API or parts dealer like Planet Rena.
