SUBSTRATpro or siporax?
I researched a lot and I'm almost decided by siporax. But it's always good to hear from experts in the subject. In short the situation is this:
Aquarium 280L effective.
Population: only a turtle
Eheim Filter 2080 with a capacity of 12L is:
- 4L mechanical filter (foam)
- 6L of Ista mini Glass Quartzite.
- 2L of ???... I do not know!
Let's get to what I learned ...
Eheim SUBSTRATpro
- Effective area of colonization of bacteria m2/litre 450.
- Promotes better flow of water in the filter.
- It seems that "clogs" fast.
- After "clogs" has to change.
- It costs R $ 108.00 per liter (in my city).
Sera siporax
- Effective area of colonization of bacteria in 270 m2/litre. Despite the lower effective area for colonization has interconnecting pores, which seems to be its differential.
- Promotes better flow of water in the media.
- Long time to clog.
- It's tougher. Then that "clogs" simply boil in water to unclog, which would give a much longer lifetime. (Not sure if this is true)
- It costs R $ 95.00 per liter (in my city).
My doubts:
1) The above information are true?
2) Entering en contact with the support of the Eheim on a configuration to meet a turtle aquarium they informed me that I can use siporax without problems, but they recommend that I use at least the basket with just over SUBSTRATpro because they said it improve the flow of water. Using only siporax Calls and perhaps the flow of water in the filter and do not be the ideal compromise the pump over time. This seemed like a sales pitch, the people who have Eheim filters have noticed something like that? What do you think?
3) The above information is true, given the amount of dust produced by the turtle is not being the best use of siporax? Raciocidando .. I'm so at least.
4) On the Ista mini Glass Quartzite. The following elements are part of its composition, oxidized Calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. According to the manufacturer that helps create an ideal environment for the colonization of bacteria. I read some reports that said she alkalinize the water. Is that true?
5) I also read that the nitrifying bacteria grow best in an alkaline environment. Is that true?
6) While it is best for the nitrifying bacteria, while alkaline water does not favor the emergence of other bacteria and fungi?
7) The amount say "plenty" of dirt produced by the turtle would say acidify the Ph? And using a log of wood? That would be enough to at least get a Ph neutral?
