I have an air rock in the tank with my red eared slider and she seems agitated lately. When I put my ear against the tank, the rock seems kind of loud, should I remove it? Do RES need an air rock?
A RES does not need it. They breathe air above the tank. My son has only had his RES about 6 weeks, but only had an air stone for a little over a week.
The only reason I put it in was because of the protein scum forming on top. The air stone did take care of it, but it is absolutely not needed.
