no it floats on the surface of the water. If your overly worried you could build an above tank basking area.

you do realize that if you turn the dock around so that the long side is going down the long side of the tank.. it should fit? It won't take up swimming room since it floats ON the water. They can swim under it. the size it takes up on top of the water isn't an issue? Make sense?

What? "its less breating room tho" Turtles go up to the water's surface, take a quick breath and go back down. They can hold their breath for quite a long time.

Your posts are pointless, telling us that you think the LARGE turtle dock is LARGE doesn't really make sense. Don't waste our time and then reply to the logical posts with something idiotic. It's called Zoo-Med's FLOATING turtle dock for a reason! I wonder why? Maybe it's because it floats? hmmm, it really makes you think doesn't it? A near 16 year old should be able to comprehend that if something floats ON TOP of the water, that it will NOT take up swimming space (water)

i didnt mean literal breathing room, just like idk. and does it matter to the turtle if the dock is in the middle of the tank or a corner? if it is the middle of the tank they have to swim under it to get to the other side, so is that something that matters?

Just like I don't know...

Most owners on this site keep their basking platform at the end of the tank. The dock floats, so unless your turtles swim around the tank w/ their head out of the water for extended periods of time it won't be a problem. Let me clarify again, the Zoo-Med floating dock does indeed float.

I used to have a 55 gallon tank and I used the large zoo med dock and it worked ok. It did take up a good bit of the swimming area - the surface swimming area but there was still plenty of room.

How big is your turtle? Maybe you could get by for the time being with a medium sized dock.

Or if you have a small turt you could use the large until he/she gets bigger and then use the dock to help float the new one by cutting it and such?

When a turtle gets big and hefty, it really does work to cut up one turtle dock and glue it to the bottom of another turtle dock to provide additional buoyancy to support the turt. It would be a good use of an old dock - recycling, as it were.
