Hi everyone,

first I apologize for not posting in a while, you guys were such a great help a couple of months ago when I was setting up my tank.

Before I call that miserable man at the xp3 help desk, I thought I would come here first.

I have had my xp3 for 2 months. The first month it worked fine, did my water changes (partial), even did a full one at the end of the month. During the second month, I woke up one morning and it wasn't working so I unplugged it, cleaned the whole thing out, replaced everything inside, and I got it to work again, now a week later it stopped working again. I have it in a 55 gallon tank. Do you think it could be a motor thing, I just primed it again and it started, but I think something is definetly wrong. Has anyone experienced this with the xp3? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way that you can exchange the filter for a new one? Try calling Rena and tell them what is happening, if they give you crap about it being a 'fish' filter just put it straight out that you know this and dont care, and want a replacement if not a way to fix it.

I dont have an XP3, but I dont think it's normal for a filter to do this.. :?

Nothing like that ever happened to me. I agree you should call Rena. Rena's literature talks about using the XP's for turtle tanks, so that business about it only being for fish was just a confused help desk person.

I've had the XP3 for about 2 years, and only on the last water change did it not start right away. After a minute or two, it kicked into operation.

When you say "stopped working", do you mean the water is not flowing and the motor is running or did the motor stop?

Does the motor hum or is it totally silent? Does it sound like it's straining to pull the water into it? Have you checked to see that the baskets are seated correctly?
