Hi there, I plan on setting up my res in a 120 gallon tank and i would like to try a canister filter. i work at a petstore and we set up a nexx filter which we hated and now won't even sell so I was thinkin about going for the fluval fx6. i know spec wise there isn't much difference in the fx6 and fx5 but they supposedly fixed a few flaws such as the bolts that hold the filter together. Anyway point is I was wondering if anybody has one of these or even the fx5 and would like to give me their honest opinion about them. Ive read online reviews and a lot mention microbubbles but over all have good reviews. Can anybody else give me some insight?

There are quite a few of us that own fx5 on here. Since fx6 is pretty new I don't think anyway needs to upgrade yet. I love my fx5 and everyone I know who has one has had no problems with it. IF I needed to get a large filter id buy an fx6 in a heartbeat.

The fx6 is pretty much just a new version of the fx5. Performance wise its the same and should be a great filter. I would buy the fx5 just because its a bit cheaper.

I concur with DB4L and Kansasslider's posts. FX5 is a fantastic turtle filter. IF I needed to get another large filter I would look for another FX5. As the FX6 is out now any remaining FX5's in stock should be discounted (hopefully). No issues with the FX5 so long as you load it with the proper media in the proper order.

Does anybody have problems with microbubbles? That was the only complaint people had but the other hundred people said no microbubbles so I'm Assuming it was just faulty setup on their part.

I have had mine just over a year and no problems at all. I like that the filter is super easy to clean. Its also makes little to no noise.Im looking to buy another Fx5 so if anyone finds a great deal please let me know. Thanks.

Usually people complaining about microbubbes are marine and reef tank folks. Microbubbles generally are not an issue for freshwater.

Ebay stores are usually where you can score a great deal on the FX5 (probably FX6 too).

I didn't realize how much the price of the FX5 has increased. I think I paid 180 for mine a few years ago. They seem to be going for $330-$350 USD now. At that price, the Eheim 2080, 2260 and 2262 are a better choice.

That's the first place I looked. There used to be all kinds of listings. Not now! Used for 300 please! A new fx6 sells for 340.

Sounds like people people might be worried about the new one and are driving up the price on the older one.

Are you trying to stock up on these? I can't believe my XP3s are still working... would have upgraded the FX5 already.
