Also I have used so much money on my two baby turtles I don't have much left either. So a cheap and effective way would be best.
I know some people suggest snails & I wish that would be an option for me, but Sheba would eat them so I have to use something else. I recently purchased an algae scraper from the local salt-water aquarium store. It is sorta like an ice scraper with an extra long handle & is made to tackle algae that grows on the glass of your tank. Your hands won't get wet, you scrape, scrape, scrape, and voila, your tank is algae-free. I also purchased the attachment that looks like a little mop, for cleaning debris on the floor of the aquarium.
There are 2 different kinds of scrapers, one for hard persistent algae on glass (has a metal-tip scraper), and the other has a plastic tip for soft algae & acrylic tanks (won't scratch your acrylic tank). I went with the softer scraper because the algae I get is typically the soft kind.
