Equipment Review and Discussion :: uvb light or not?

hey my friend got this 'uvb' light for my birthday today. Im not sure what it is or is it even uvb.

so the cover says full spectrum daylight heat lamp
i know you should avoid full spectrum bulbs, but why and what do they do?
and also the lightbulb is purplish blue.
here is a small picture of it (i didnt take it)


The box says COATED WITH NEODYMIUM TO ENHANCE THE NATURAL COLOR OF REPTILES. But it does not say uvb __.0% or anything like that.
so its not a uvb lightbulb? it has a pic of a turtle tho. Im not sure if this is
the right one or if this is uvb able or not...so give me suggestions, and yes
i can buy a uvb lightbulb if this is the wrong one.

and she told me that she got the lightbulb from ace hardware.

What brand is it and what exactly does the box say? I would guess that since it came from a hardware place and doesn't give a % of UVB that it's not. I think a lot of those bulbs are meant for like lizards and snakes. I know they make UV measurers, but they prolly cost more than they are worth. I'd just invest in something from the pet store ...

It's not a UVB bulb. Sorry.

What you've got is basically a basking light (and for that a regular incandescent bulb would do). Full spectrum doesn't mean it's a UVB light. UVB lights don't give off heat and are flourescent.

Your turtle needs both a heat light (which you have) and a UVB light.

thank you, i bot those exo terra ones, turned o ut to be 16 dollars instead of 11 im moneyless!
so now im using the one i have upbove for the UVA one:)
