can i turn my filter off during the night because it is kinda loud and i sleep bye it. so would it be ok if i turned it off or would it be messy

You shouldn't turn it off.....But give it a try and see what happens.

I sleep in a room with a splashy hang on tank filter. I just got used to it, and dont even notice it anymore. If it really is a problem, you SHOULD turn it off. You need your sleep.

its a whisper filter but it hits the water loud. ive slept with it already i sleep aight. i just thought it would be nice to turn off for a little cause i cant hear my tv as well haz

Bad idea. If you leave it turned off for too long the nitrifying bacteria in the filter will die off and most likely result in an ammonia spike. Basically, your tank will never cycle properly.

When I had a waterfall filter, I turned it off every night. Don't know what it did to my water chemistry. That was before the time I knew about testing the water.
The water definitely got scummy quick though.

Another suggestion could be filling the tank with more water so the splash distance is less and less noise.

I agree with you Jozzep because I also doing the same thing by filling the tank with more water, leave a about 2 inch from the top. So lesser noise.

Yes it is, but you need to get creative to avoid that and give the turtles the most out of the tank....

Didn't put anything in the front cause my turtles gave up on trying to escape,but you can put some clear plexiglass if you're concerned.
Hope this gives you ideas.

I strongly suggest the you leave it on. You could resolve the problem with a canister and not have to worry so much about the water level. The turtles need their water exchange on a constant basis. Maybe your doctor can subscribe some Ambian for sleep. Good Luck!!

You can try rigging up a tube to extend the output into the water if your filter allows it. I know canister filters are just tubes, so you can put them under water. If my filter is allowed to hit the water, it's incredibly noisy, so I make sure that the output it always under the water level.

However, it shouldn't adversely affect the water if it filters for 16 hours during the day and off at night. Just remember to plug it in or it will get scummy! My bigger concern is the filter itself, it may not react well to being plugged in and unplugged so frequently.

I can't see why you can't turn it off? Most waterfalls use only carbon filters. Now if you had a canister filter with a bio load that would be different. I've always heard and have been told that your bacteria can die if the filter is left off for to long.
