hi, im sorry if there is already a topic posted about this... i tried to find it but was unsuccessful. i know that glass and screens block the rays from the UVB light... the light that i am using came in the fixture and it has plastic under the light to keep the bulb from getting wet.

i am wondering if the plastic needs to be removed in order for my turtle to get all the rays from the light that he needs. and if the plastic does filter the light... why would they put it on there to begin with?

any advice would be great. thanks

There should be nothing including plastic between the UVB bulb and the basking area. Anything like that will filter the UVB rays (some more than others).

Most hoods are made for fish tanks and guard against splashes and condensation. I don't know if there are hoods specifically made for turtles (there are ones for reptiles in general).
