well my dad said that i couldnt use that holder for the edge of the tank for the flukers clamp lamp (he thinks that the light would fall in) so i was wondering if this would work

It should be fine as long as you have something to clamp it on to. And make sure you can clamp it so it is close enough to have an effect.

well im planning to build an above tank basking area but im still thinking about a layout so i might need it or i might not but im just asking because im making a list of prices for a new tank which i will be getting in a couple of weeks

I have that one and have used it in small tanks. I clipped it to the edge of a board that the tank was on.
