Yup, it's a good heater. I have had mine since like last november I think, and it does a good job at keeping a steady water temperature in my setups.

Visi-therm also have non-Stealth heaters, but you'll want to avoid those. I had one that shattered, though I was partly to blame

oh crap thats right. yeah you should stay away from glass heaters, they arent the best when it comes to turtles. but the visi therm stealth heater is a good one thats unbreakable.

I'm not sure how much you paid, but when I bought mine, PetSmart was incredibly cheap. They have the 100W for $24.99 online right now. And if you have a PetSmart near you, you can print the page and bring it in, and they will match the price for you (usually the store price is higher than the online price). This will save you time and shipping cost. So if you haven't opened yours yet, maybe you can take it back and buy it at PetSmart if you paid more.

Just to add, the Visi-Therm Stealth heaters are great. Indestructible, they automatically turn off when the desired temperature is reached, and power off when taken out of the water. (I still recommend that you unplug the heater when you take it out of the water.)

Why are glass heaters bad? I have one for Serra and it's doing really well.

oh. Serra's still pretty small, and she rarely builds up any momentum. I reckon I can keep my glass one for another year.

The other thing that happens is that people drain the tank and forget to turn the heater off, so it gets really hot in the air, then they refill the tank with cool water and when the cool water hits the hot glass heater - BAM!

That was my experience.

Glass heaters aren't necessarily bad, but they can shatter if they're out of the tank and get wet. I personally don't like having a glass heater in a glass tank but I've never had a problem with my Ebo Jager. There are also some shoddy glass aquarium heaters out there, so I'd especially avoid the cheaper/ no-name brands.
