I wouldn't worry if you have a glass heater, Tenodera. Most of the better glass heaters are made of glass that's pretty tough under regular use. I've had (and have) them and have never had a problem with them. You just have to take the necessary precautions (don't keep the heater on when it's out of the water, take it out of the tank about 15 minutes after disconnecting it and putting in the tank about 15 minutes before plugging it in, etc.). You'd want to keep it away from rocks to prevent the possibility of it hitting against them. If you're really concerned, you can get a heater guard.

I use primarily Tronics and Ebo Jagers and like them because they have indicator lights (which Stealths don't). They also seem to be more accurate than the Stealths I've used, although some have felt otherwise.

Ya with proper recautions it shouldnt snap on its own
Turn it off first wait then take it out
when your done

Put it in, then turn it on

So that the glass wont shatter

Hey Marisa, have you bought any new Ebo Jagers lately? I've heard that the company was bought out and the newer heaters do not live up to the previous standard.

I just bought a Rena glass submersible heater... I know I asked this is another post but, any ideas if glass on glass heating is a bad idea? the suctions cups are missing and it's harder to convince my husband to sleep without the A/C than to wrap the tank with towels and hope it doesn't get too cold... I bought the heater and realllly want to install it now, but don't have any suction cups and it's sitting on the bottom, I want to make sure that if I turn it on it won't crack either the glass or the heater.... ((ps anyone every drunk-post on here?... excuse any rambly/weird post I make on here at 3 AM to that lol))

I bought Ebo-Jagers to use last winter (but still have yet to use them). I'm aware the company was bought out (I forget which company---Hagen???) and I know people on fish forums like Stealths. I was told by someone that the quality had dropped as well, but I don't know whether it has or not without trying them. I don't know why it would, since the name is so reputable. I know the Stealths I have aren't all that accurate depending on the wattage. And some of mine have taken forever to heat up the water.

I notice that the Stealths used to have a lifetime guarantee (on the box) but read recently from someone here that the guarantee is 2 or 3 years (I think).
