...the cutest little map hatchling you ever saw. My 14 yr old son saw him and it was love at first sight. He named him Jimi and he's soooo outgoing & unafraid for such a tiny little guy! He's been here 2 days and has already been handfed, loves being handled and doesn't flinch when you approach him. He hasn't basked too much yet (that I've seen...) but the temps are right and he's still new so we're trying to be patient.

Having never had a hatchling before I can't get over how tiny he is compared to Liza (8.5") & Mercer (5"). Here's some I took of them last week & the new pond setup - double-basking area with a ramp to the soil. I'm working on setting up the ground area for nesting as Liza's been getting out of the water lately when she never did before

And to think itty-bitty little Jimi will grow up like that! I really can't quite believe they sold a turtle that small. They had a few others & all looked healthy, but geez! Anyway - thanks to this site my son has a decent set-up for him and is looking around for a 55 gal instead of the 15 gal plastic tub he (she??) is in now.

Wow, your outdoor pond & turtles in it are really cool! Love all the plants you have in there.

That tiny little turtle-kin is ADORABLE! That's the thing with turtles....they are addictive....!

awww such a cute lil map turtle, almost looks like a mississippi map :)
When you're a deadite skeleton, life isn't filled with a lot of options. So they make the best of it by playing dead – Which is why we like to introduce them to Mr. Shotgun, who doesn't give them the opportunity to pretend there anything but Chalk.

i thought it was illegal for pet shops to sell turtles that small.

wasn't there a 4 in limit at one time?

they have to have a disclaimer that the turtle will only be used for educational or scientific purposes, but they don't need proof that, that is true.

A really cute-looking map. Nice pics as well. Your aquatic plants look really good, especially that water lettuce. :)

Some states are stricter than others about enforcing that law. Here is NH it is enforced vigorously and they don't accept the customer sign-off/disclaimer excuse either. :( I guess that's a good thing for the turtles though, but bad for serious keepers like us.

Such a beautiful set-up! What a cute baby! All the water lettuce I've seen is small and flat (like a lily almost). How did you grow yours so big and fluffly?
