Scrubbing. But if you don't get the algae fast enough, it stays green (or brown, whichever algae you have) I have a protein skimmer that gobbles up the algae but just a portion.

Light, heat and nutrients in the water (from debris, uneaten food, etc.) all contribute to the formation of algae. Is your tank in a window? How long do you leave the lights on? What's the water temp? How often do you change the water?

When you clean, try scrubbing with white vinegar and rinsing well. If you don't clean really well, algae can come back fairly quickly.

If you don't have that much algae, however, you could just leave it alone. It won't hurt your turt and can add a more natural look to the tank.

I allow some algae to grow in my tank and yes it does look a bit more attractive... until it starts to grow on the glass.

I've never had that problem (another plus for the stock tank :) ). The algae that's visible is on the edge of the corkbark only.

I've considered stock tanks for a while now, it's just I can't seem to find the right sizes. :(

I use a product called Algae Fix. It's made buy aquarium pharmaceuticals.

Scrub it all off and add to the water. It'll keep it from coming back. You will need to use it every time you clean. If you don;t the algae can come back, but it comes back very slowly.

2 thumbs up
