Habitat - Indoor :: I'm wondering if the lagoons are ok 4 my turtles ??

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I agree with Shady...The feeding in a spearate container can help to minimze the amount of filtration you need in your tank for a little while. When I say for a little while though, I am referring to those without a lot of money and are looking for the cheapest, easiest route to having a decent habitat for their greeny. Good filtration is a must, but when you're just getting started (or someone you know gives you 8 turtles), and you can't afford the proper size tank filter or have a smaller one that isn't quite adequate, you definitely need a way to get by till you can get something bigger and better.

I was guilty of keeping my very first ever little turtle in one of the death bowls for many years I also only fed the little guy commercial junk sticks and occasionally a fly I swatted........poor baby it did not die....what happened.... well I had a gold fish pond out side and as one winter approached I had to do an emergency moving of my gold fish so into the above ground pool they went....I took the turtle out of its little prison to give it a chance to swim in deeper water since we wouldnt use the pool full of fish....it loved it for some reason I just didnt have the heart to take him back out of the sunshine and boy that sucker grew fast...would not fit in that bowl no more so there it stayed in the pool a hurricane hit and we got lots of rain the pool over flowed and the turtle escaped the river is right behind my house I know where he is and what he thinks of me now sorry I didnt know better and with out a place like this I still wouldnt we need to inform the pet stores they have a responsiblity to learn and educate the customers pampletes could help?????

I actually brought in RES care sheets to the pet store to give away with their turts...don't think they used them tho. They keep their res in a 5 gallon tank on the counter with at least 5 res and 2 frogs in it at any given time.

Well i bought my turtles at a swapmeet, they had like 25 res in the tank which wasn't filled all the way. when I saw them i thought they were cute and I felt really bad when i saw them all together. I wanted to give them a better home. I really didn't know much about res when i got them, i just thought there were adorable. But as i read articles in the internet i learned more and more and i realize that they need more than just a lagoon, water and food sticks to survie and be healthy and live long. It's so cute when they eat i put live mealworms on the rock and they all climb on the rock to get them and go back in the water to eat them. They love those things...

I'm going to palm desert tommorow. hopefull i find a tank that i like for them. Oh i bought an outside pool for them and i put rocks, so they can bask. And i also made sure there was shaded for them so it wouldn't be so hot . They seem to enjoy being out there, but i don't leave them outside all day.

We ought to make some stickers with some links to herp sites that people can get info about the turtles they are getting, I don't think that the petstore owners would mind, it keeps their employees from having to learn anything about the pets :D :D
