It's fine as one of the things you give him for greens. If he likes bibb lettuce, you might try escarole or endive. Red and green leaf are always a good bet too.

When you say red lettuce is that cabbage. I can't find a red lettuce or at least not yet. Hopefully with spring coming i might find some. Bibb lettuce is pricey and hard to come by. I actually have a caterer we use at work bring it to me

Red leaf lettuce is like green leaf lettuce, except that the ends are reddish-purple. Not red cabbage. I don't think the turtle would like that so much.

Yeah, I buy bagged salads and this week the one I picked has red cabbage in it and my turtles eat around it. They do like red leaf lettuce though.

Here's a great site for looking up nuitritional content:

http://www.mealographer.com/food/Vegeta ... ducts.html

Bibb lettuce (grouped with butterhead and boston lettuce) has a calcium to phosphorus ratio of about 1:1, which is acceptable. It's fine for your turtle as long as you provide it in moderation in a program that includes a variety of good veggies.

SpotsMama thanks so much for this link. I like to read nutritional values and this site is awesome.

however, I am not finding Fenugreek on there. Anyone have any info on this green veggie? I have found the dried seeds but not the raw veggie. I eat it in salads but it is hard to find.

just jule - if you go to the Indian or Pakistani populated areas you might have better luck finding fenugreek. It goes by the name Methi there though. (that is pronounced more like 'me' as in the first part of menu and tea as in what you drink - the h is sort of silent)

3 goldfish that will probably become food

Just jule, here is the info for fenugreek seed:

http://www.mealographer.com/food/Spices ... 02019.html

There are different sections on the list and this one is under Spices and Herbs.

It's for seeds not leaves, but if the leaves are similar then it's not the best thing to feed your turtle. There's twice as much phosphorus as calcium in the seed, which means it's going to bind up some of the calcium in the diet.
