I think the Ebo Jager heaters are ceramic and wont burn or break. Never used one tho.

hey Ladywillowmoon, we haven't heard from you in awhile!

The visi-therm stealth heater is made of thermal plastic... its very nice (ask Carol and Flutterby about it too :) )

Ebo Jager and Tronic I think use tempered glass. I think there is also an aluminum water heater, I don't remember though.

Don't forget the heater guard, that should help!

Okay I'm lost here... I thought Ladywillowmoon was asking about thermometers not heaters... :)

Yeah I love the visi-therm stealth heaters.. actually just bought two more.. for the fish tanks.

I have a plastic thermometer in one of my fish tanks.. flutterby picked it up for me at the local pet store.

so do those external sticky therometers read the water temp well???
I'm just wondering, because that'd be great!! especially since she's very active (and her bites kinda hurt now too!!)
Sorry I haven't been on in a while..
been working and going to college.. alot of stuff on my plate .....
Thanks all!

Oh jeez..I read 'thermometer' and thought 'heater' for some reason.

I just have a plastic one that uses alcohol instead of mercury. I'm sure it'd be breakable but mine don't bother with it. I don't find those sticker ones to be very accurate.

for me, they have been fairly accurate... it may take a minute or 2 or 5 for it to record the correct temp. i know a few people who don't like them at all...

They haven't been that accurate for me either. There are a couple of kinds of plastic thermometers I've seen sold at places like Petsmart (I have one that is flat and suctions on to the side of the tank; I've seen one made out of stainless that hangs on the tank as well.

The stick on thermometer I got has always been accurate. It reads the exact same temperature I have the heater set to. Obviously different brands are probably gong to work better than others. The one I have though works quite well.
