I was at a local pet shop a few weeks back and i remember seeing their red ear slider turtles in a tank with other fishes!
I was wondering how do you know which fishes are compatible (lol it's llike a computer) toliving with my RES? Is it just trial and error? because i don't want my turtles eating any fishes that i buy that aren't feeder fish (i plan to get rid of the use of feeder fish as my cousin gave them to me, i find it horrible seeing the turtles killing those fishes.)

Thanks

Anything that you put into the tank with your turtles will more than likely become "lunch". Maybe not right away, but don't count on them staying around long or becoming "friends". :D I've got a pleco in with my turtle and at the moment he's been in there about 3.5 months not bothered but they are the same size for now. I know not to be upset the day I find him gone or dead because it very well can happen. Turtles view almost anything in their tank that they can put into their mouth as possible food. :D

Along with what sonyj said, it also has to do alot with the size.
How big were those fish compared to the res? Or vice versa
I know some people that place in huge cichlids in their turtle's tank, later finding out the cichlid killed the turt.
I guess it's safe to say that both tank mates should be the similar size if you want both of them to last. But this is not garanteed.
If you want feeder fish in the tank, than the fish should be smaller :)

I have heard that after a while the turtles will stop eating feeder fish
so far this is true with my turtles they just don't seem to care anymore but they still really like ghost shrimp. so i've got a lot of feeders left from the last time i put some in.
also stripped or spotted rapheal catfish get along great with turtles (they will fight back) and they help to keep the tank clean, but they are nocturnal so make sure it has a place to hide while the lights are on. a tube is a better hidding place because the turtles can and most likely will colapse any kind of cave you build.
